onomota-- whata??
ONOMATOPOEIA

I need some...so get creative!*

What is an onomatopoeia?
Onomatopoeia (occasionally spelled omomatopœia) is a word, or occasionally, a grouping of words, that imitates the sound it is describing, and thus suggests its source object, such as “bang” or “click”, or animal such as “moo”, “oink”, “quack” or “meow”.

ty wikipedia, you are always so helpful!

So, here is the challenge. I need the word and a definition. The words and their definitions can be figments of your imagination. ie: they do NOT have to be actual sounds like "meow". (ya, now you see why I came to you huh). Here is one I came up with:

PWNED: The sound you hear when I take your whole stack cause I flopped set and you rivered two pair.

You get the idea... ready, set, GO!*

*disclaimer - just so you know, any and all ideas given on this blog can and will be plagiarized.

another weekend gone...
POKER:

I had a full plate this weekend and wasn't planing on playing any poker but I rushed and got my cleaning lady duties done early Saturday morning so I could play in the AIPS II NLHE tournament at noon. I ended up finishing 2nd, one place short of the mighty AIPS Banana trophy. C'est la vie. I did, however, recieve a cool $94 for my efforts. I'll take it, especially with how I have been running lately, cold cards and handing out my money.

Here is the hand history from the last hand. I could've played it much differently. I had no reason to put all my chips in, I wasn't short. But the person I was playing against likes to chase and after the check/call on the flop and a check from him on the turn I was just wanting him to fold. I really didn't put him on any kind of Ace.

For those of you who play in my All in or Fold tournament on Saturday evenings, I'm sure you missed me. But keep reading and you'll see why.

PROJECTS:

I had a positive/negative project to do this weekend for my Design 2D class. We had to pick an image for our rockstar, mine being the great Jon Bon Jovi of course. I ended up with a guitar a) because it was easy b) because it was easy. I am not very talented when it comes to hand drawing anything, so I had to pick something I could trace. This weekend I had to hand ink the images, which was torture. My hand isn't too steady, but it is done.

Next I had to do two typographical grids. The first being an elemental grid, 7x7 square, 1" grid.

When I finished this I had to do a creative grid, not easy when you are practically blind from the previous two projects. I had a hard time coming up with something but ended up going with... you guessed it... EASY!

So that's it. 48 hours and another weekend gone. I have to say the projects are already getting easier, and I think I'm actually learning something despite my stubborness. Go figger.

damn the man...
That title works in plural as well... damn the men! But vv/e that's another post...

This post has a purpose, to get all the non-poker players that read my blog to click this link and join. Ahh yes, you are asking "WHAT? WHY?". And as always I shall give you answers.

Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

As to the "what?" it is the PPA- Poker Players Alliance. Since that pry just confuses you more, here is what the PPA does:
The Poker Players Alliance is a nonprofit membership organization comprised of poker players and enthusiasts from around the United States who have joined together to speak with one voice to promote the game, ensure its integrity, and, most importantly, to protect poker players' rights.

So why does that involve you if you don't play poker? Well, what do you play? How would you like the government telling you that you can't play the game you enjoy in your own home? What if you pay for a subscription to pogo.com where you can play games like canasta, bridge and cribbage and win real money in a lottery type drawing, and because the government banned banks sending your monthly payment to "GAMING SITES" you can't play anymore? So, if you are a fan of your personal rights and choices, I'd say join.

A friend of mine wrote a letter to Bill Frist, one of the authors of a recent earmark on a the Security Port Act that was signed into law at the end of last year. The earmark made it illegal for banks to do transactions with "gambling" sites. Altho it had a carve out for lotteries and horse betting, it did NOT have a carve out for poker. Here's what Frist had to say in his reply:
I have heard from many concerned citizens regarding passage of the
Unlawful Internet Gambling Enforcement Act. While I understand the
conerns of the numerous individuals that participate in on-line gaming,
the bottom line is simple: Internet gambling is illegal. Gambling is a
serious addiction that undermines the family, dashes dreams, and frays the
fabric of society. Congress had grappled with this issue for 10 years,
and during that time the on-line gaming industry has exploded. Although
it is impossible to monitor every on-line gambler or regulate offshore
gambling, steps can be taken to police the financial institutions that
disregard our laws.

That's right, it is crumbling the very fabric of our society! Not greed, or consumption, not ignorance BUT FUCKING POKER! Our private citizens don't have the capacity to decide what to spend their disposable income on, so we will decide for them.

I realize poker is hardly the most important issue in this country right now, but the fact of the matter is when we start letting our government make laws about our passtimes, it's only going downhill from there.

I've said it before...
I'll say it again, if you are not using coupon codes then you're a dummy.

See, straight to the point.

They even have 10% off, no minimum at (my favorite store) TARGET deals! And that's pronounced in a French accent for those of you out of the loopage. *Tarjay*

But vv/e keep payin full price, it's not my money.

as the T turns...
I'm so exhausted. *pause for everyone to feel sorry for me*

Ok, so I tried anyway.

I turned my project in Wednesday, made it thru the critique and no one got hurt. I was happy that mine was pry in the top 5 of the class and I was feeling good about myself. Yes, I said WAS because it was all shattered when we finished critique the prof decided to hand every one's projects back and have them redone. I think I may have been too obvious when I said "WHAT?!? WE HAVE TO DO THEM OVER?!" She handed them back one by one to each student saying what changes needed to be made. Thank the gods, mine only needed to have the white margins taken out, black to edge on the right side and bottom. Woulda been good info to have when we were doing the project. I went to Kinko's right after class Wednesday to get it done. The kinko's people were appalled saying that it is impossible to get a xerox that is black to the edge, there is always a white edge. But after 45 mins we figured it out. I guess I was the lucky one tho, most of the people had to completely redo theirs. And for them, I truly do feel bad. I know how much work it was, even if they didn't turn out perfect. I can't wait to do this prof's review at the end of the quarter. Altho, as one fine friend pointed out, she will pry pass that back to be redone too!

Maya got straight A+'s on her report card. So I let her get a lil something for herself. I was at my art supply store and she picked out this little window art kit. She even let Anna do one, I know, impressive! They turned out pretty cute, well in a mother's eyes, and we put them on the front door.
Photobucket - Video and Image Hosting

But that's about it. Between school, homework, work work and all the other boring stuff I haven't had time for much else. Except BATTLESTAR GALACTICA! I've been watching 2-3 of those episodes instead of playing poker in the evenings. Mostly because I don't have the brain energy at the end of the day to play poker and leave up. And because the show is a fungus growing on my brain.

ALTHOUGH...

We are going ice skating tomorrow and I should be able to get a few good "HAHA JOE FELL" pics... wooooot!

for the fantasy addicts...
It is a fantasy MMA (mixed martial arts) team. You can win $500 and it is free to play!

I don't know much about the sport myself, but some of you freaks might. I checked out the site and it looks like it works the same way as any fantasy team. You check out the fights and pick a winner etc. You can even make sidebets with fantasy tokens with other people in the pool.

Consider it my tip o the day.

nothing good...
AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH!!!!!

Ok, just had to get that out... ty.

GOOD NEWS:

  • Hey guess what... I sold that shitty ass auction piece o shit car yesterday! Actually, it wasn't too bad after I fixed it up a bit. But, I was able to get my money back out of it so I'm happy and I hope the sucker gal who bought it is too!
  • I finished all my homework over the weekend. It was excruciating, but I did it. Sounds silly, but I'm proud of myself. Homework time is a lot harder when you're 30 29 than when you're 18. Now mind you, the good news isn't how stressed I made myself over the whole thing... guess I need to work on that.
  • My brother in law fixed my kitchen sink this weekend. The pipes underneath have been leaking for months and the faucet started leaking at the base last week. It sure is nice to have it fixed. TY Scott!
  • Captain Adama got the fleet back together.
BAD NEWS

  • I hardly have time to play poker anymore, and when I do play I lose. BOOHOOOO!
  • I'll have a whole new shitload of homework to do this weekend after my classes today.
  • Our projects have to get critiqued in class today. I love it when a bunch of 19 yr olds tell me what I'm doing wrong. Let's hope I take it well.
  • There are still 8 cylons in da fleet. Frakers.
MEDIOCRE NEWS

  • I guess this could be bad news for some of you, but I'm gonna try to get back into my paperposting. Why? Because I want to go to Vegas this year for my 30th bday treat to myself, and if I do one every day it will easily pay for the trip. And well, that'd be pretty cool. So deal widit! But I wanted to let my (five) readers know because well, I'm not guaranteeing that any of these posts will be good. Just fyi, skip em.

the internets has free books!
Who knew. Ok, I did know, but I didn't know about this particular site where they have free technology book downloads.

Seriously, they have everything from Java, C++, and Perl to Linux and Microsoft. Not bad for freeage. Also, I didn't have to log in or register or anything. I checked out some Java info and it just brought up links and a .pdf file.

Not bad I say, not bad a tall. (<- on purpose plz read appropriately).

el finito...
Or however you spell that in espanol... I took French so J'ai fini!!

After approx 8-9 hours of blood, sweat, tears and a lot of frustration....

And don't even get me started on how the Kinko's idiots almost ruined the entire thing. I need to go sleep for about 2 days now.

And yes, I know the Aunt looks like Cunt... but I noticed to late to change it, and I suppose it's a BIT appropriate :)

purdy pitchers....
HMMMM...

I found a photography blog called photocritic.org- DIY photography weblog today on my ppp site, and it's actually a cool site. He gives a lot of tips for normal every day folks. For instance how to best photograph fireworks, and creative ways to crop photos etc. Both of these articles I found very interesting and useful, especially the fireworks one.

He even has a photoshop tutorial section with some simple techniques for beginners like me! I saw a post abou CS3 coming out sometime too. The photoshop tutorial is very basic and easy to understand, so not a bad place to get a feel for the program if you've never used it.

Check it.

Oh the horror...
For those of you who don't know, I'm an insurance agent. Well kinda. Well I mean, I am, but I'm trying not to be. If you see what I'm saying... see?

OK, so the crappay part about working in insurance is that it is all regulated by laws that vary from state to state. Although they stay pretty similar in each state there are differences. In Ohio we have to do Continuing Education (CE) credits every two years that total 20 credits. It isn't something I look forward to because it costs money (a lot of it) and because it is just a bunch of crap. I mean if these courses gave useful information that would be sweet. But no. It's a bunch o crappe.

But this year as I waded thru what seemed to be a never ending series of crap questions, I got this screen:
It made me laugh. Not to mention it was in Homeowners Insurance, which BTW I'm not even licensed in. GG Ohio.
(disclaimer: this picture will only be funny to the weirdos I play poker with, all others may ignore)

Last night Joe was on the phone with one of my friends attempting to help her with a computer issue. He was out in the garage of course, cause he can smoke out there. At one point he comes in the house with the phone in his hand, but stretched out towards me "The phone is beeping what do I do?"... I just look at him..."I mean there's another call, how do I answer it?"

I do be diggin the schoolness, for the most part. My typography class however is kickin my ass. It is a bit difficult to explain by typing it out. First, for those of you that dont know, you should look at what typograpy is:
Typography is the art and technique of setting written subject matter in type using a combination of typefaces, point size, line length, leading (line spacing) and letter spacing.

ty wikipedia

So one would assume (especially after reading the syllabus for the class) my professor would be teaching us the characteristics of type/fonts, how to measure and enlarge them, how to distinguish them, set them, and generally use them for a purpose... say, the PROJECT WE ARE DOING?? But OH CONTRAIRE MON FRERE (yes I know that's spelled wrong, it was on purpose Anal person) my prof has decided NOT to teach us any of the actual typography tools we need to do our project (despite the syllabus) and just be really vague, but somehow sound smart at the same time. Oh ya, and did I mention the project requires drawing?

Fraking artsy fartsy people.

So, I'm supposed to take this:

Turn it into this: (which I got help from a friend on, ty Sheila)

Then SKETCH the photo out on tracing paper FOUR times in different sizes each time, trying to sketch out the light, dark and grey aspects of the photo, which I will be transforming into fonts this weekend. Which in and of itself is gonna be hell. Now if you still don't understand wtf I'm talking about, you are not alone. My entire class is still confused.

I'll be sure to get a scan of my final project so you can see what I'm talking about, and make fun of me.

Ok, what else....

This guy's site is fraking amazing if you haven't seen it yet. He makes these spectacular fractal images for your desktop. I would give you an example, but you reall need to see it all and take it in. If you click on one to download, you will notice it asks for a username and pw. But don't fret. Just cancel out of the pw screen and it will take you to the "terms of use" page that you have to agree to, and then he will give you the daily password.

The World Series of Poker 2007 schedule is finally out, for those who are interested. Looks like a nice little line up.

And if you're just bored, I have a lil sumthin sumthin for you too.

Yes, I got up way too early this morning. Something is wrong with me. But I now hear little stinky butt's waking, so blog time is over.

flick or fluck...
OR FlickerFlucker - get your head out of the gutter.

"FLUCK!" is what I yell when I realize I just missed an episode of CSI. And "FLICK!" is usually what you will hear out of me while I'm watching Law and Order:CI on USA late at night to wind down and relax, and I actually get to see an episode that ISN'T a rerun, in fact it is a very good episode, but when it ends it has the "... to be continued" and when the next episode of CI starts immediately after IT ISN'T THE CONTINUED EPISODE! Ya, I don't know what's up with that either, I think the programmers are out to get me.

But my troubles could be over with this blog I found... FlickerFlucker - Dedicated source for all your top US tv shows.. You can search and download all your favorite shows by episode. Check it out, they may have yours.

Or you can be like me and go just cause they have a cool name. I'm just to easy really.

by maya...
The girls and I have a daily routine. When they get home from school, we got thru their homework folders and start their homework. Their folders include homework, but also notes to parents and graded work. Most of the time this is a drag, especially with Anna's teacher. I'll give give you a "for instance" instead of trying to explain why this woman gets on my last nerve.
Last Friday we got a note home saying the 100th day of school was approaching on January 19th (last Friday being January 5th) and that they needed parents to bring in certain items and gave us a list to choose from. So, as usual I put the list on the fridge for the next time I go shopping. Yesterday (Monday for all you calendar challenged, or the following school day after the original letter) I got a hand written note from Anna's teacher saying I needed to bring in Orange Washable Paint. Or in other words "F the list bitch, quit being lazy and bring in the paint". So I wrote back on the same note "OK I'll get it to you Friday". Again for the calendar challenged, this would be the 12th of January, SEVEN full days prior to the 100th day of school. Today Anna came home with the very same note in hand saying "Ms. Sharpe said you need to get this now!". VV/E ho. This is a very regular thing.

Anyhow, the whole point of this post is that every week or so I get a surprise. Poetry written by a 7 yr old. The very best 7 yr old IN THE WORLD.

And it goes a little something like this...

If I were a rabbit I would hear loud noises when they talked loud.
I would not hop away.
I would be nice.
I would eat anything they gave me.
I would eat lots of vegebles.
I would see a lot of children.
I would like to be peted.
I would want lots of water.
I would stay in my cage and not try to get out.
I would be smooth and soft.
I would be sweet.

THE END

Or sometimes I get a little rhyming action...

A snow poem:

I like it when it snows.
When it plows so fast.
It just goes on past.
So I just like snow.
It must just snow each day.
It goes way to way.
I sit down to make a snow angel.
My sister just runs around like a clown.
When we make a snow man we roll the snow down.
We pull a sled in the snow up the hill.
We had some hot co-co when we came in.
We had a cold.
And we sold a car.
We had a sand box but threw it away.
We saw a fox in the leaves.
I love it.

frak...
I wouldn't consider myself a sci-fi fan. In fact, I usually scoff at the idea of watching a sci-fi movie or TV show. That may seem weird to some of you that know me by my poker alias "khanwoman", but trust me, had I known that would become some sort of alter ego, I'd have thought much longer on it. But that's another post.

For now all I have to say is...
BATTLESTAR GALACTICA RAWKS

and when I say madhouse...
I mean madhouse. This place had 10 registers with lines to the back of the store at each one. I was so glad I had called ahead and had my books paid for and waiting for me.

I find the pick up area, ring the little bell and the attendant hands me a pile of books with a big yellow note on it that says "NOT PAID". I'm all like "WTF?!" and she's all like "The line's like right there" and I'm all like "WTF?!"

And, I get in line.

I get caught up in a few stupid conversations, during my hour wait. It never ceases to amaze me how stupid people can be, and then I start to wonder if I sound that stupid when people overhear me. HMMMM.

My line was actually in an aisle that had a couple things I needed for school, so I added them to my pile. Then FINALLY I get up to the register. The books were beginning to get heavy, so I sat them on the check out counter as soon as I could reach it and a gal, about my age standing behind me says something about one of the classes I'm taking. She said she enjoyed it (the typography class I go to later today).

Then it's my turn. Now, mind you I had gotten an email from the financial aid department over a week ago that my funds (over six thousand of them) were avaliable and ready to be used. But, you guessed it, he runs my Tartan Card thru and it says "insufficient funds" so I have him do it again and the same result. After standing in line for over an hour, I decided to just pay for the damn books and get my money back later. When I walk out of the store I call the fin aid dept to see WTF is going on and they tell me the store was wrong yada yada I'd have to come get a refund.

When I get home later that day (at 5pm mind you and my class was over at 12:45) I have a message on the machine from the bookstore saying the books WERE paid for BEFORE I picked them up and I had waited in line for over an hour for NO reason and had shelled out $200 of my own money for no reason. Thanks bookstore. I <3 u too.

So, that's it, my first day of school in all it's glory.

Now I'm sitting in a computer lab where I'm supposed to be researching Jon Bon Jovi for a 2D design class. Ya, I don't get it either. I mean she gave us an hour and there is only so much information out there on Mr. Jovi. I think I may go with a topic of his recent humanitarianism, but I'd rather do something on hair bands or the 80's. Hmm, maybe hairspray or hair gel, so many choices. We will see how it goes. Besides, I have no idea what I'm doing so it should be fun.

float like a butterfly, sting like a bee
I still got it.

That's right my bad luck follows me to this day.

I leave for school early yesterday because I wanted to stop by the bookstore and pick up my books before class. When I arrive at the parking garage it is closed off with police outside telling people to go to another lot. So I follow directions, until I found myself in a 1/2 mile back up on the 5th street bridge. So, instead of sitting in the non moving line I decide to hang a Uey in the middle of the bridge and go find myself some street parking.

I find some new meters where a cop is pulling off the "No Parking By Police Order" bags they put over them... BINGO! I even have a crap load of quarters, and it's a FOUR HOUR METER! Ok, so that was a bit of good luck. When I get out of the car tho, I realize, I have no idea where building 13 is. As I grab my bag out of the car I look up and see bldg 12, NICE I must be close, and I realize I parked right in front of the building!

The only bad part was that after all the confusion, I was no longer early enough to go grab my books. I had parked right in front of my class, but at least a 15 minute walk to the bookstore. So I decide to just head in and find my class. When I open the doors I see a big sticker that says "WIFI SPOT" woooot and I have 15 mins to check it out!! Three access points later and I can check my gmail. Suhweetness.

I head into class and find a seat near an outlet for the laptop and the class starts filling up, and yes, I'm one of the oldest people there. Well, besides one guy and the professor, the three of us look about the same age.

School has changed so much since I went last. The prof starts to write his contact info on the board (dry erase board not chalk board). It takes him over 5 minutes to get it all up there. Name, room, office hours, email, website, AIM nick, WAIT AIM NICK?? hahaha I got a huge chuckle out of this. In fact he didn't even list a phone number, until later when he was going over the info and realized someone might want his phone number.

But, not much went on in class, a little talking but mostly just info on the fist day:

VIS114-IDT 01/02/07

Prefers to be called Mr. Thompson or Professor Thompson

Very little printed material, he puts it all online.
Computer lab around corner.- second floor print credits etc
Hes a geek too, email best contact.

IDT = everything you need to do BEFORE you start a project- planning a project
Ie: blueprints to a house except for digital media or web design
Interactive Digital Media

And that's it. Boring eh?

Class ends promptly so I ditch the bag and head over to the bookstore. It is a MADHOUSE on the first day of classes of course....

Ugh Ive lost track of time, more later.....

here we go again...
So this is it. Today is my first day of school. At 11:30 I have a class called "Interactive Digital Theory", whatever that is, I'll letcha know.

Last Wednesday I went to campus to pick up my books at the store and they were still closed for winter break. I found out that they re opened the following day and that I could order my books online and they would get to me in 2-3 days! I thought that was a good deal, except I still don't have my books. I called them this morning and they still haven't processed my order, so I made arrangements with Jim (who sounded either cute or gay, I couldn't tell) to pick up my books before class. Thanks Jim.

Here be da schedule:

I'm glad the first day of classes is a Tuesday, since I only have one class. This way I can figure out where building 13 is and all that jazz.

3 things....

  • I hope I'm not the oldest person in the class.
  • I hope they have WiFi
  • I hope I can take notes on the laptop, my writing skills aren't so good anymore and it makes my hand hurt.
That's about it... I'll cya on the other side.

happy new year!
We watched Happy Feet last night with the kids and I really enjoyed it. I didn't mind the environmental message and I felt it was highly outweighed by the humor and music. But then you're talking to someone that recycles, uses fluorescent lighting and times her thermostat. I try to do my part, as you should too!!

Anyhow, funny statement of the night..

Anna: "Mommy how do you say Bittula."
Mommy: "Bittula."
Anna: "Mommy how do you say Bittula in Spanish?"
Mommy: "El Bittula."
Anna: " EL BITTULA ELBITTULA... hehehe I like that!"

Don't ask me, my kids are possesed by satan.

Anyhow, New Years Resolutions. Since I'm such a selfless person, I'm going to give resolutions to the rest of my family first.

JOE: You should go to the doctor. Your life would be so much easier. It HAS been over 25 years, and they have things to fix your messed up stomach and make you snore less. And as for a resolution, you can't get one much easier than that. And, trust me, I could think of much worse.

MAYA: You should resolve to finally clean out your EARS! I mean come on, isn't that annoying to never hear what people tell you? Pretty soon you'll miss out on the good stuff too. But then maybe its a defense mechanism for your singing *HAHAHA*.

ANNA: Quit biting your fingernails!! I'm so tired of hearing you cry about your "pinger's hurting" baby!! You gotta quit that stuff, or I'll be forced to resort to some Old Time Southern torture to get you to stop, like put hot sauce on your fingers. And, well, we don't want you crying like you did last time about that. So, just stop.

ME: I resolve to continue to be as practically perfect in every way that I already am. It IS a hard task, but ya know, it's all worth it. Especially this year when I will turn 30. THIRTY?!?! Shut up old people.

And yes, that's just my little way to say there is so much wrong with me, I wouldn't even know where to start with a resolution. I'm hoping that this year my life will start to take a new direction, and my resolution is to do my part to make sure it does just that.

Here's a good start:

OMFG IS IT JANUARY FOURTH YET?!?! IM TRYING TO BLOG HERE LITTLE PEOPLE!

Especially in the work department. I checked my voice mail yesterday and there were three messages, all from mad people, all dealing with problems I've already spent countless hours to fix and all from things the duck didn't follow thru on. It is so frustrating. When you deal with insurance and money, it's not fun to have pissed off people. And, when you're trying to fix a problem you have to deal with laws and regulations like HIPPA, and well, I'l stop there. But I'm sick of it. I can count on one hand the number of accounts I actually enjoy going into anymore. The sooner the better on that one.

Quote of the morning:

Maya: (says all excited) "Only TEN MORE MINUTES!"
Mom: "What's in ten minutes?"
Maya: " Eleven O' Clock."

And, HAPPY BIRTHDAY SIS! Today my sister turns 31, she was a New Years' babay! So cabbage rolls at my mom's house today to celebrate.

So here's to wishing you the same, more happiness, more health and more time to spend with your families in 2007
